Just a restaurant ....

This morning, roaming around near the Wangsa Walk looking for breakfast, we happened to drop at this place.

A surprise it was, it was such a nice place with very friendly operator couple, and they happened to have their family with them at that time. Been there for over 2 years now they say .... and they are surviving well even though the rental keeps on increasing.

The place? Cosy, but it must have been the dim light that makes the place looking cosy. But they seemed to be well patronised.

Food? Of acceptable standard ..... the Malay food looks good but the capati was very good, and I had two them ..... thin and crspy but not too crispy .... and in the end I had two capati dishes .....

Furniture is of good standard, plates and dishes acceptable for such occasions and cutlery suited for purpose.

Price, it was very reasonable.

I will give it a good rating, considering that many restaurants in the vicinity have changed hands and they are still surviving.

Just an eating place

Sunday morning, a friend and I tried the breakfast 'thing' at Sitis Choice, Section 6, Wangsa Maju. Seen that place as I pass by and once talked  to a friend in front of it but never tried the food there.

We tried. Very ordinary. I had nasi lemak and my friend lontong (?). The lontong 'kuah' a bit cold my friend explained (he is from Johore, so must know), and my nasi lemak ..... nothing much to talk about. But the sambal was good and I had two helpings.

The total price? My friend paid, so I did not ask.

Just an average place if you bare hungry.  Except that they have a settee for you to sit on if you want to rest while waiting for the food.

just being unsociable ..

Just being unsociable ...

A notice on the nearby school wall .... despite that, smoking cannot be controlled.

And some people have taken away the bars to the drain barrier, someday someone may just fall into the nearby drain ....

A Soup Place

It has been sometime now that I dare to write about any eating place in Wangsa Maju. Every time I write about it I find that it closed down a few months to a year later.
Anyway tonight my family and I went to this place to try the meals there.
For the 4 (+ a child) of us it costed us,

Not that bad I suppose.

But unfortunately tonight the place was almost fully booked by a private party, so we ended up having to seat at the corridor. Its all right I suppose but the table was not so stable, it spilt my tea,
Never mind, the food was passable (to me) but my wife says that it was good. And the presentation was nothing to talk about, with such a cheap price (by local standard) one just cannot complain. The soup a bit watery and the 'soup ekor' had a lot of fat, they just floated. Just be careful that is all.
Was I satisfied? Well, OK for a cheap evening family outing. Or maybe we did not order the right 'thing'.

Late Breakfast

This morning I was looking for a late breakfast. I went to many restaurants behind Carrefour/Wangsa Walk. A few I entered seemed good, the food as usual and variety no difference. But none greeted me.

But when I entered Restoran Bedok Corner (33 Jalan Wangsa Delima 13, WM)  - close to Unhuat Electronics - I was pleasantly greeted by the owner himself who has a very pleasant smile. I decided to eat there.

The food was good (and the usual variety) and I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a reasonably good Malay food. The price was acceptable, I have an iced tea, rice, a piece of fried chicken and a tempe' and it costed me RM6.80. With his rental of RM6000 a month he had to charge me that, reasonable I thought.

The cook is the owners wife herself. Internally the restaurant was quite pleasant and clean.

The owner (and Manager) is En Baharin an RMAF man, just retired.

He also had a variety of 'kueh' which he sells at RM0.40 a piece. You have to try those, they are good.

She was

She passed away just a couple of days ago, and not many of the neighbours knew about it. I notice the unkept front garden and I wondered, but there was no one to ask. Untill today, that is, when my wife mentioned it. And I talked to one of the Chinese neigbours and it was confirmed.

I remember her well. Originally there were two sisters who used to take morning walks, and I would talk to them, and sometime back the sister died. I mentioned that in one of my blog postings. Then her brother (from Singapore?) moved in with her. But she was already seemingly ill.

She is now gone and not many of us even know her name. Worse, not many of us even knew that she has passed away.

in memory of Tuan Hj. Kasman

(with permission)

A resident of Section 5 Wangsa Maju, who passed away on the morning of 21st Dec. 2009, at the Selayang Hospital. He was buried at the Muslim Cemetary in Jalan Ampang Kuala Lumpur.

An unassuming men, who take to walking from his house, about 500m away, to the Surau An-Naim, almost every morning to close to near his ending days. With a walking stick usually, some in the form of almost to reality snake head.

Fondly known as Wak, though he is not of Javanese ancestory. In fact I am told that he (or his parents) originated from Sumatra.

May Allah SWT bless his soul.

Community Police Base

We have such an institution in Wangsa Maju. How many of us know about it? How many of us has seen the Policeman? Have anyone ever made a Police Report at that Base? Questions, questions, but we need some answers to ensure the effectiveness of such presence of permanent Police personnel in our midst.

Keeping progress

Its interesting to note the progress of very similar buildings (structure wise) in Wangsa Maju. One started very much earlier but still to be finished. In fact it looks like site that has been abandonned.

The other started very much later but is almost finished. In fact the building (s) are operational being occupied (by students).

Why is the situation like that? There is no need to speculate.

New Mall

So we have a new mall, Wangsa Walk. Open wide space with many good restaurants and a Cold Storage, a fancy upclass supermarket. Wangsa Maju now has moved further upmarket.

wall painting

The biggest wall painting I saw in Wangsa Maju. The skill and the dedication, and the symmetry, amazing.
