AU4 - That letter.

This is what the organiser says in his e-mail,

With kind permission:,

Salam,

Salam Sejahtera

Pak Din

Road closed, at site

The road has been closed. And at site some reactions are happening. There are bound to be protests.

But the people involved are happy, in a way. Less traffic, less pollution (both noise and petrol fumes). And in Wangsa Maju, those living in Pangsa Murni are really at peace.

But the alternative route seems to be 'delayed', and the Authority (DBKL - KL City Hall) is very 'forgiving' about this.

Looking ahead

Saw this at Jalan 1/27D, Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur the other day.

Road Closed.

They (the Local Council) have closed the slip road and the only outlet from Section 6 Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Lembah Keramat, the local residential and neghbouring community.

Whilst the 2 carriageway constructed from Section 6 to the DUKE Highway, a newly built Highway about 2 km away, is not even ready yet. It looks like it has been abandoned, or is it the case of the Contractor having absconded because of payment problems, a very common occurrence in Malaysia where Contracts in most cases are tied down to political patronage. If that road to DUKE Highway is ready it will not be too disastrous to the residents of Section 6; at least they can have an alternative easy have access to Lembah Keramat locality. As of now, by denying the access to Lembah Keramat, this causes a lot of social and economic inconvenience to the residents of both sides.

Socially now, the residents of Section 6 cannot access their friends in Lembah Keramat through that access road, which was regarded as almost a lifeline to the community. They have to go a long roundabout way just to have a cup of tea with their good friends just across the road. And of course going to the nearest surau or prayer house they have to find a way, a longer way or they now need to find a new surau to go to, almost a new community.

Economically its worse. Look at this lady ‘nasi lemak’ seller,

she used to get many customers prior to the closing of the road, those using that road originally, but now she may have to closed down her business, where her return is beyond her capital cost to do that business. (by the time this is written and read she might be gone, shifted to another and more friendly business location)

And the Fairview International School which is now just about to be ready to accept students will need to find way out, by longer route, to transport their students. The School is just about 1/2 km from the now closed junction, very close to the HERO Supermarket.

And probably worse hit will be an Indian Restaurant nearby the closed junction and the HERO Supermarket next to it. The Supermarket was opened on 08/08/08 but their luck seems to be fading away with the closure of the road junction. (see Google Earth photo, earlier)

I heard that some residents have protested by sending signed petition letter to the Local Council, many from Section 6 itself have signed the protest note. And, as usual in Malaysia, this is ignored by the Local Council concerned or the power that be. I suppose the people who protested about the existence of the road, they do not liking people using that road which is too close to their front doors, are more powerful and probably have connections with the people in power in the Local Council. I don’t really know the real situation, in Malaysia everything seems to fall into the ambit of Official Secret Act (OSA).

Hill development

The steep sloped hills in our vicinity. Let not there be hill developement over these hills. Or we may find ourselves faced with landslides eventually during a rainy season.

Hills in Wangsa Maju

This was sent to Star-on-Line blog a few days ago and was accepted for publication.

I read with interest this news from the Star.
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/12/7/nation/20081207161532&sec=nation

Between Section 5 and Section 6 in Wangsa Maju Kuala Lumpur there is a steep undeveloped green hills full of trees. I would urge the Authorities concerned or Bandaraya KL or the Ministry of Federal Territory not to allow developmenet on these hills. I fear the worst as what had happened at Bukit Antarabangsa very recently if development is allowed on the hills.
